Beat the heat

Yeah, it’s hot out there. Unless you’re one of the lucky few who has the luxury of air conditioning, temperatures at this time of year are close to unbearable. Not to fear, PTB readers; we’ve done a bit of research for you, and have come up with a bunch of ways that you can beat the heat and Pop the Bubble at the same time!

Public Pools/Waterparks

It’s a proven way to cool down on a hot summer’s day; head over to one of Hamilton’s many public pools and enjoy the water. Try Parkdale Pool (located at 1770 Main St. E) or Coronation pool (81 Macklin St. N). If waterslide are more your thing, check out Wild Waterworks, located in Coronation Park off of Centennial Parkway.

Designated Cool Areas

During times of extreme heat the city designates cool places where residents can go to get a break from the heat. The Salvation Army, Wesley Urban Ministries, Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre and the Hamilton Housing Help Centre have all opened their doors to people who need to cool down. Movie theatres, shopping centres and most restaurants are also air conditioned, as well as libraries and City Hall.

The Waterfront

It’s usually cooler down by the water than in the city, so take advantage of the beautiful waterfront area that Hamilton is home to. Another benefit; there are tons of great ice cream places along the waterfront trail. Check out Scoops or the Hutches Dairy Bar for some sweet treats!
