It’s almost August…

And that means that it’s time to start looking for volunteer positions for the upcoming school year! We, the bubble poppers, are huge proponents of volunteering in Hamilton. There are literally thousands of opportunities for students to get involved, and as a campus the size of a small town there are so many ways that we can make a difference in our city!

Here are a few ways to get involved in August and September; with one-time placements, short-term and ongoing commitments there is definitely something for everyone.

Hamilton Farmer’s Market

The City of Hamilton wants to conduct some research about the experience of a farmer’s market shopper at Jackson Square, and to do so they need help. Volunteers will be responsible for conducting surveys with shoppers and counting the number of shoppers entering and exiting the market over the course of a few days. Shifts will occur between August 16th-20th, and volunteers can sign up for as many shifts as they would like; participants will be trained and will be given a reference letter upon completion! For more information contact volunteer@hamilton.ca by Tuesday August 2nd.

Good Shepherd Warehouse Sale

If you’re in Burlington and looking for something to do on Saturday August 13th, this might be the perfect opportunity for you. Good Shepherd is looking for volunteers to help with a warehouse sale at Unilever, with all proceeds going to support the organization. Interested volunteers should contact Marilyn at marilynm@goodshepherdcentres.ca.

If you’re starting to think about an ongoing volunteer placement for the upcoming school year, now is the perfect time to be looking. For help finding a placement, preparing for an interview or anything else volunteer-related, contact volunteer@mcmaster.ca; we’re more than happy to help!
