Light Rail Transit in Hamilton

Since 2007 the idea of having a Light Rail Transit (LRT) service in Hamilton has been brought up. Designs have been drawn, communities have prepared, and people have gotten excited. But the promises allowing for such a transit system were broken.

Midway through last year, Hamilton’s city hall seemed to change its mind about the feasibility of such an LRT. As a result, no more progress has been made on the plans, which are now “not a priority”.

In response, a civic campaign has been initiated in which Hamiltonians are calling on each other to ensure that this LRT actually gets built. The initiative can be found at

“It’s time for Hamiltonians to remind the City and the Province that we believe – as the City’s and the Province’s studies have confirmed – that LRT is the right decision.”
