Third Place: Baltimore House

“The third place is a term used in the concept of community building to refer to social surroundings separate from the two usual social environments of home and the workplace.” (Wikipedia, “Third Place”)

PTB will try to highlight places in Hamilton that are fantastic places to spend time, congregate with others and build a REAL LIFE social network.

In our first attempt we are highlighting the recently opened Baltimore House which is a unique new spot with a Mac connection: co-owners Jimmy Skembaris and Grant Winestock are Mac grads who have decided to bring something new to the King William/James St North area.

Located at 43 King William, the Baltimore House is meant to be “a safe place where people can mingle with friends and have fun, and to be part of the growing allure of James Street North and the hoped-for revival of King William Street.” (Spectator, December 15, 2011)

Self described (on their twitter account) as  “A one of a kind lounge, club and music venue by night. A reading library and cafe by day”, this definitely sounds like a fantastic place for students to mingle and get involved with the growing arts and music scene in Hamilton. Tired of trying to find a place to get work done in the library? The Baltimore House sounds like a comfortable and relaxing space to drink some coffee and get that paper done.

So, don’t trust our brief review- check it out for yourself! Word has it the coffee is good, the food is delicious and the sky is the limit for this brand spankin’ new Hamilton hot spot.
