Make a Difference Without Leaving Your Desk

The Hamilton Spectator is stirring things up with their latest SpecKids initiative called the Change Challenge.

Up until May 16 The Spec accepted proposals from community groups looking to improve the lives of children in Hamilton. At stake is a grant for up to $25000. The proposals have been narrowed down to the top five which include:

Artasia on Wheels: Support for a mobile art-making hub that travels across Hamilton and offers community and art to kids for free.

WAVE After School Program: A free after-school program for at-risk 8 to 13 year old kids in the economically disadvantaged Wever community.

Fitness FUN-damentals Mentoring: A lunch-hour program providing games and sports to help address issues such as obesity and bullying, offered through schools.

Read to Your Baby: A program which offers books — and an early start to literacy — to children aged 17 to 24 months, across Hamilton.

Food4Kids: Food4Kids provides a weekend supply of healthy foods for elementary school students living in poverty.
