Things to do, things to see; places to go, places to be

In the midst of the craziness that we call midterm season, I hope everyone is finding enough time to finish the work, but also to relax and have a bit of fun. Now that spring is only a day away, I’d say it’s acceptable to start hoping for less snow and more warm weather. The sun seems to be poking out a little bit today, hopefully indicating that we’ll be seeing a little more of it in the upcoming weeks. There’s nothing like a like a little extra vitamin D to accompany our walks between classes.

And if you’re looking for ways to make your life more fulfilling, perhaps consider exploring Hamilton this week. Manta Contemporary, an art gallery on King William, is showing their March exhibit until the 28th. It features Paul Dickens’ method of  drawing, called “Quantum Doodling”, consisting of a complex structure of colourful and calculated line patterns.

And for the music lovers out there, there are a few concerts coming up this month. Laila Biali, a contemporary Jazz singer, has a show at the Molson Canadian Studio this Friday March 22 at 8 pm. If you prefer country music, Carrie Underwood is playing at Copps Coliseum on March 28 at 7:30 pm. As a final option, perhaps you’d enjoy seeing the Hosanna choir of Dundas, who will be singing in Hamilton Place on March 30 at 7:30 pm.

If you’re looking for a different form of entertainment, you may be interested in attending the Psychic Expo at the Hamilton Convention Centre this weekend (March 22-24). You could expect to experience some psychic readings, books, crystals, as well as lectures and demonstrations.

And finally, it’s worth looking into a cool Hamilton-related volunteer opportunity that will be happening in May. If you’ll be around this summer, consider applying to volunteer for Doors Open Hamilton, a once-a-year weekend event on May 4-5, which provides open and free access to landmark buildings that are either normally closed to the public or charge an entrance fee. The deadline to apply is April 1st, but if you don’t want to volunteer, be sure to mark the date in your calendar so that you don’t miss this awesome Hamilton experience.

I hope that gives you a few things to keep you busy this week! Enjoy 🙂
