AGH World Film Festival 2014
With more than thirty films screen at four venues across Hamilton, the AGH World Film Festival 2014 is an event any movie lover wouldn’t want to miss. The Art Gallery of Hamilton is presenting films from multiple genres, including several TIFF-premiered movies. The opening night screening at Jackson Square’s Landmark Cinema 6 will feature The Trip to Italy followed by an amazing after party across the street at the Art Gallery of Hamilton itself.
The rest of the line-up includes international, Canadian, and independent films selected by a 10-member committee made up of local film professionals, cinephiles, and community members. I’m most excited to see Boyhood. It premiered this year at Sundance after TWELVE YEARS of filming with the same cast, showing the childhood and coming of age of a young boy and his sister. These are the kinds of movies we don’t often see as summer blockbusters but we can learn so much about ourselves and other people from the stories they tell.
There are multiple ways to buy tickets for this awesome event: individual tickets are just $10 or you can purchase a 10-pack ($90) or 20-pack ($170) of tickets. If you REALLY love film and want to immerse yourself in the festival you can get yourself an All-Access Festival Pass for $250. Tickets for the opening night screening are $20 and admission to the after-party is free. All of these options can be purchased online at www.aghfilmfest.com, in person at the AGH, or at the AGH Design Annex.
The Art Gallery of Hamilton is an important part of Hamilton’s arts culture. Featuring local artists and those from afar, the AGH gives Hamiltonians the opportunity to experience compelling art of all forms without leaving the city. It’s a gem in the downtown core that is often underappreciated. The best part? As a McMaster student, you can access most of the art gallery for free by showing your student card! The Civic Engagement Student Success Leaders will be planning a Mac Pop The Bubble! trip to the AGH in the next few weeks so keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook accounts if you’d like some company for your first (or tenth) trip there!
